From The Page (May, 1973):
The Barony will hold a Spring Gathering of the Clans and Houses of the North at the Washington Park Archery Range, Portland, Oregon, on Saturday, May 12, 1973, from 9:00 am to 7:00 pm. This will be a tournament of Joy, with games, arts, combats, merchants hawking their wares, and general rejoicing to the Gods that the long winter has gone. Among the contests on this day will be a bardic circle, to choose a bard to rule until deposed by a combat of words, and a bread baking competition.
Two titles, to be used within the Barony, will be awarded to any qualified fighter from the Kingdom of the West who can pass the tests. The title of Armsman will be awarded to a qualified fighter who presents himself to the Baron bearing his own helm, his own shield (with his device on it), and at least one tournament weapon, all of which must have been approved by the Marshall as to safety. Those Armsmen who wish may then compete for the title of Warrior; the competition will consist of tests in Archery, Spear, Strength, Agility, Speed and Combat.
Games and contests will also be organized for non-fighters. Setup will begin at 9:00 am. Competition on the various games and combats will start at 10:00 am. Presentation of those assembled to the Baron at 1:00 pm. Competitions will then continue until 6:00 pm, when awards will be presented. Cleanup and departure at 7:00 pm.
