Yolo County Fairgrounds,
From The Page (August, 2011):
Ducal Prize is an event jointly sponsored by the West Kingdom and KHTI, with the profits to go toward the purchase of a permanent tourney site for the West Kingdom. Since this is a jointly sponsored event, be prepared to sign an event-specific waiver. Some of the competitions already on the schedule include multiple weapon list, sword and shield list, superhero, Shasta, cat's cradle and the ever popular resurrection melees, pole arm list and the BARROOM BRAWL. For the Barroom brawl disguise your weapon as a household object. There are rapier activities scheduled as well.
There will be games on both Saturday and Sunday that include the bucket brigade, water balloon toss, the Amazing race 2, kids scavenger hunt, hunkerhauser, tug of war, and a three legged race. The hobby horses will be out for a race and style points will be awarded. Monday morning wrestling will continue as will the Monday youth padded weapon list. There will be the drag races or rather a drag saunter. After all you have to have class and show yourself the best. This needs to be child friendly please!
Friday night will feature the Special Request Bardic, beginning after dinner. Saturday nights bardics are Period piece (any style)- if there are enough entries of both types there will be both a musical and a spoken category. Please bring a copy of the piece with its source and style information. Period-style piece (written in any style other than sonnet). The filk contest is based on geography. Names of places, so John Denver, Boston, Chicago, all of these are possible song ideas. Finally there will be an ugly sonnet competition. Think Bulwer-Lytton competition for sonnets.
Finally, for your shopping pleasure, the auctions will be starting on Saturday night with the grand auction on Sunday night. As always we need stuff -- your stuff, my stuff, everybody's stuff! Donations to use as competition prizes, to fuel the Monster Auctions From Hell, and to sell at the garage sale. We can't hold a three hour auction for your listening and shoppmg pleasure if we don't have your items to sell back to you, can we now? Remember, services as well as items make great auction donations. Dinners and such-like have been some of our most successful offerings! If you have any questions about whether a particular item would make a good donation, please contact the Supreme Commissar! There is also a garage sale all weekend. You can donate to several people in the Mist and in Cynagua. Contact the autocrat for that info.
Site Information: Yolo County Fairgrounds in Woodland Site fee is $10 members, $15 for non-members, and you will receive five raffle tickets. The site opens at 1 pm on Friday and closes at 6 pm on Monday. If you show up before 1 on Friday, then you are part of the set-up crew.
