Queen Constantina sent the script from Saturday morning court, where King Alden was late to court. He and three riders came riding into court a few minutes in, with blood on faces, arrows sticking out of shields, and the following occurred:
| Constantina: | Your Majesty! What business keeps you so long from your halls and from your lady? | |
| Alden: | I have ridden far afield with a band of warriors, a dozen men, small in number, yet great in prowess, to treat with King Vik of An Tir. Before ever we came to the far North, we discovered that which we have feared has come to pass -- the black and gold horde of AnTir gathers in the Summits with but one thought in mind … to cover all the lands of the West in darkness. We saw with our own eyes that which the Barons of the Northern Marches had warned us of. We saw the fires of their camps and heard also the rumble of horse and the ringing of steel.
Worse yet, in the darkness and mist we intercepted a courier with a missive from the lion of An Tir himself, written proof revealing the cold and corrupt heart of our cursed Cousin! Herein he offers gold, lands and even women to the Baron of Allyshia, the defender of Our Northern Marches, attempting to buy from him his honor. It was not long before we were discovered and pursued by over twenty men on horse, some bearing the standard of Duke Skeggi, some clad strangely -- other dark allies of the enemy that we knew not. We slew them to a man, and though we despised to leave our own dead in shallow and unmarked grave we have ridden with all haste to bring this dread news. War is upon us! Men of the West hear now the words of your King, long have the Marches held back the menace of An Tir, but their defenses can hold no longer. Rise now with sword and ax, with arrow and spear, to defend that which is dearest to our hearts. West Kingdom, keepers of the setting sun, defenders of the gold and green, gather your forces for WAR! We ride in but a fortnight. | |
| Artus: | Your Majesty, I beg you, we have many able Generals, do not put yourself in harm’s way. If you are fallen we are without a King as you have no heir. | |
| Alden: | Do not speak it! I would not have my men ride to war without their King, though many great leaders are here among us who would acquit themselves well. However, we shall not let our Kingdom falter without a King should I perish in defense of our lands. Let a tournament be held this very day, and the warrior who wins the day shall be my undoubted successor. Earl Marshall, will you take charge of this noble endeavor? | |
| Artus: | I will Your Majesty. |
