To the People of the West (and An Tir) - Greetings!
This year's West - An Tir War turned out to be such a great event, that I felt compelled to follow up on Prince Leon's short note.
As promised, we worked very nicely with the An Tiran team and revised the War Scenarios in a way that worked out extremely well. For the record, the An Tirans were exceptionally gracious and courteous, and completely willing to adjust things - even on the fly - to make sure that everyone could and would have a good time. I want to personally thank Tryggvy for being so willing to set aside many of the things he had envisioned in favor of simpler scenarios that were easier to implement. The camping set up also worked out very well - so, quite frankly - if you didn't go, y'all missed a great war... For all y'all in An Tir - thankyouthankyouthankyou - We really loved coming up to play with you, and hope you will all come down to our place for next year's War! ;)
About the War...
There was *plenty* of fighting to be had, we kept the breaks reasonably short and the honor, valor and chivalry on the field all day was fantastic. Warriors on both sides were seen to continuously give each other the benefit of any doubts, and as such the mood was positive, fun and enjoyable all day long - right to the very last blow struck.
The West Kingdom Viking Luau was an outrageous success, with a 145 lb spit roasted pig, hula dancers (who really knew the hula!), ample firelight, music, and later middle eastern drum circles and belly dancers (including the fire dance by Lady Kamillah mentioned in an earlier post). Their Majesties of An Tir contributed a fully stocked bamboo shack tiki bar to the party, as well. To put it mildly, a good time was had by all, until about 4:30 in the morning, when Her Majesty Kaaren and I put out the last torch... :)
A few additonal items;
* The West fielded 92 combatants total, heavies and lights (An Tir's final number was around 140 - 145)
* We gave out a few awards at the event, but of special note, Duke Sir Radnor of Guildemar was proclaimed a Hero of the West - the 5th such entry to that order.
* Sir Conall (of the Argent Angels), my Banner Bearer, acquitted himself once again with such great distinction and valor that We were compelled to name him a Baron of the Court of the West.
There are way too many people who contributed to make the War turn out to be such a great success, for me to thank them all in this post, however I give special thanks to Lord Baldewynne ap Radnor, Queen's Champion, for his efforts above and beyond the call of duty, to the Western Spartans who made my job as King manageable with their personal service to me, and finally to the Ermine Company as a whole for the fact that their decision to make this War a great success for the Kingdom of the West - truly made it so.
Finally, to Leon and Muriel - thank you for helping to represent the West so incredibly well, within the distant lands of another Kingdom.
To Queen Kaaren... None of this would be possible without You, Your tireless dedication to the Kingdom and its people, and the devotion You inspire in those who serve Your Court. The West is truly fortunate, for the greatness of its Queen.
Jade [King of the West]
