The Fortieth Year

All Fools' Revel -- Selviergard

April 1, 2006 (AS XL)

VFW Hall,
Eagle River, AK

From The Page (March, 2006):

It's NEW YEARS again! Someone thought they could change the calendar and say that January First is the beginning of the New Year but we all know that the Spring Equinox is the true start of the year. And THEY call us FOOLS. So let's Celebrate! At noon, cheer at the display of mastery at arms in the Pas d' Arms heavy tourney; at 2 pm, the Best Two Out of Three fencing tourney will make you cringe at the sound of live steel crossing. At 4 pm, gather your teams of three and enter the Fools' Knowledge tourney.

Try your hand at Mummers' Mask Making all day in the hall. There will be prizes for the best child, teen, and adult masks. We will have a Mummers' Dance prior to feast to search the nearby wood for the first green signs of spring. Tales and songs of foolish deeds offered during feast will be judged by the populace for a prize.

Tradition was that on All Fools' Day the peasantry could "Beg a Boon" from the lord of the land and it would be granted, keeping in mind not to be too greedy since tomorrow the lord was back in charge. We will see what our Barons get asked!!!

Hot soups and bread will be out for our mid-day meal. Feast will consist of fowl boiled in oil provided by the Cook, and the following dishes that you bring to the groaning board. If you were bom in the month of: April - June, bring salads; July - September, bring cheeses, spreads, etc; October -December, bring starch dishes; January - March, bring vegetable dishes. Dessert contest for the best Decadence Without Chocolate dish will gain you a prize from the 'allergic to caffeine' autocrat.

There are NO KITCHEN FACILITIES AVAILABLE. Bring bags to take your soiled dishes home in. Crock-pots are recommended for any hot dishes you bring and small coolers for the cold. Remember the hall is not very large. All spirits must be purchased from the Comer Pub.

Site Information: VFW Hall in Eagle River. Site opens 11 am and closes at 9 pm. Site fee will be $7 for members, $10 for non-members, $3 for children 4 -12, and free for children 3 and under.
