The Fortieth Year

Jingles -- Southern Shores

December 3, 2005 (AS XL)

Unitarian Universalist Church of Palo Alto,
Palo Alto, CA

From The Page (October, 2005):

Circa 860 AD a monk from Noirmoutier wrote: "The number of ships grows: the endless stream of Vikings never ceases to increase. Christians are victims of massacres, burnings, plunderings: the Vikings conquer all in their path, and no one resists them: they seize Bourdeaux, Perigueux, Limoges, Angouleme and Toulouse. Angers, Totirs and Orleans are annihilated and an innumerable fleet sails up the Seine and the evil grows in the whole region...." Any idea what a Viking horde does after conquering half of France? That's right—stop for dinner! On this night the fleet will drop anchor in our ancient, honorable, and hungry Province. All warriors and shield maidens of the West are invited to join us there for a feast of barbaric delight. Start sailing now— details to follow in the November Page.
