St. Valentine's Day Bash -- Far West

February 11, 2006 (AS XL)

Sasebo Naval Base,
Japan

From The Page (February, 2006):

The Society for Creative Anachronism (adults) and the Medieval History Club (youth) will hold their First Annual St. Valentine's Day Bash! "Bash" as in bash each other with swords and maces in sword fighting tournaments all afternoon for youth soft-swords, adult hard-suit armored rattan sword fighting, and mixed couples soft-sword tournaments. The tournaments will be followed by a medieval feast of dried fruits, venison [or borrowed English Beef, as we are mostly good Scots] stew served on a bread trencher (for each couple in the traditional manner), bread pudding with and without raisins, and hot chocolate, hot tea, and hot lemonade (to ward off colds and scurvy that comes during deep winter if you don't have enough onions and lemons.) Medieval dancing and bardic performances by the populace of the Incipient Port of Shielded Harbor will follow dinner. There will be sword fighting instruction and dancing instruction as part of the event for those uninitiated to medieval martial arts and dancing.

Site Information: Our event will be held at the EJ King High School and Sasebo Elementary School Gym and cafeteria from noon to 9 pm. There is a $5 afternoon site fee to cover the cost of refreshments and a $10 evening and feast fee per person. Make checks payable to "SCA, Inc - Far West". There is a shuttle from Fukuoka airport if you are coming by air or sailing in by ferry from Korea. Contact the autocrat if you are coming from outside the area for directions to site.

Autocrat: Friar Jak (contact info omitted).

Description of this event (if any), taken from The Page, or from memory of at least one person who attended the event.
