The Thirty-eighth Year

Ducal Prize Tournament -- KHTI

August 29-September 1, 2003 (AS XXXVIII)

Yolo County Fairgrounds,
Woodland, CA

From The Page (July, 2003):

This year's Ducal Prize Tourney will be at the Yolo County Fairgrounds in Woodland - the same site as last year! (Green grass - good! Showers - good! Grainery - not so good, but we can't have everything...) Ducal Prize is an event jointly sponsored by the West Kingdom and KHTI, with the profits to go toward the purchase of a permanent tourney site for the West Kingdom.

Site fee is $5, and you will receive five raffle tickets. Since this is a jointly sponsored event be prepared to sign an event-specific waiver at the gate. The site opens at 1 PM on Friday and closes at 6 PM on Monday. If you show up before 1, then you are part of the set-up crew.

You will find all the details on the competitions and other activities and complete site rules in the August Page. We will also have handouts available at major events. Friday night will feature the Special Request Bardic, beginning after dinner. Saturday and Sunday will be full of competitions, auctions and the world famous Ducal Garage Sale. Monday will wrap up with Monday Morning Wrestling and tear down.

As always we need stuff - your stuff, my stuff, everybody's stuff! Donations to use as competition prizes, to fuel the Monster Auctions From Hell, and to sell at the garage sale. We can't hold a three-hour auction for your listening and shopping pleasure if we don't have your items to sell back to you, can we now? Remember, services as well as items make great auction donations. Dinners and such-like have been some of our most successful offerings!

Contact Anastacia (Auntie) ahead of time if you're not sure about whether your donations will work well. Also contact her if you have an extra bulky item that will need to be picked up ahead of time. There are agents for this very purpose in your area.

Autocrat: Anastacia (Auntie) Grindstead (contact info omitted).

This year, we will be returning to the same site as last year! (Green grass - good! Showers - good! Grainery - not so good, but we can't have everything...) Ducal Prize is an event jointly sponsored by the West Kingdom and KHTI, with the profits to go towards the purchase of a permanent tourney site for the West Kingdom.

The site opens at 1 pm on Friday and closes at 6 pm on Monday. If you show up before 1, then you are part of the set-up crew. There will be quiet and noisy sections of the site so read your site handout before you set up.

The preliminary competition list includes:

Fighting: Saturday: Sword & Shield List (belted and unbelted), Florentine melee. Ducal-team melee. Weapon Auction melee. Sunday: Super Heroes (costumes encouraged) Pole weapon Melee, Mass weapon Melee, No Shield list. Resurrection Melee.

Evening Activities: Friday night the ever popular Special Request Bardic, Saturday Night: 50's Crooners Participants must be prepared to sing the original song (at least one verse) and identify it's providence if it is not known to the judges. Theme Bardic: Period style love songs 3 minutes or less, extra points for documentation. Seven Virtues piece to be written on site each entrant will be given a virtue to write about.

Again the Cordials contest not under A& S since people have been known to let their bardic lights shine only under the influence, we thought it appropriate. Please submit 2 bottles one for judging and one for auction. And don't miss the Sunday night Kasbah!

A&S: "Junk Yard Wars"! This contest is a team event in which you are given a set amount of 'junk'. You must create a presentation using the items you are provided and your wildest imagination. Once again Saturday night's event will be to make a presentation for the King of Caid. Sunday night's will be for the Queen of Caid. Remember the winning items will be presented by our Majesties at GWW.

Rapier Fighting: To be determined

Games: Javelin toss, 3-Legged Race, Hunkerhauser, Hula-hoop in Armor, Combination Quest, Trivia Contest (3-person team with at least 1 adult), Trebuchet Sponge-Chunking, Peering (imitate -right down to gestures- notable people of the West), Chariot Races, Chess Wars and anything else we can come up with!

Boffer List: Page School Rules

Plus, as always- Auctions, more Auctions, the Auction from Hell, and The World Famous Ducal Garage Sale!

Monday will wrap up with Monday Morning Wrestling and tear down.
