The Thirty-sixth Year

Pyrate Festival -- Shire of Danegeld Tor

May 11-13, 2001 (AS XXXVI)

Marysville, CA

From The Page (April, 2001):

Ahoy mateys! Spring has come once again, bringing with it fair weather and a great yearning for the sea. Don yer sea legs and come sail upon the foamy brine with the pyrates, privateers, and other mariners of the Glorious West Kingdom! Participate in daring deeds! Delight in "spending" the small bag of "coins" that each adventurer will receive at the gangplank (gate)! But look carefully which coins you recieve, for one random booty bag will contain special goodies, and its new owner will be crowned the Pyrate King or Queen, our version of the Lord or Lady of Misrule! Beware, though; every scoundrel this side of An Tir will be looking to replace you! More coins may be earned by participating in the event activities, or at the whim of the Chancellors or the Pyrate King or Queen. Save your coins, for they will be the currency for a grand booty auction at the end of the event!

Daytime activities will include an open arts & sciences display and nautical/pyrate trivia sponsored by the Loyal Guild of St. Erasmus (Known World Nautical Guild), as well as some silly races, including the obstacle course, with its famous watery plunge. There will be several live "Pyrate Chess" matches, and a return of the deadly chicken and the stumps of doom. We are giving themed role-playing fights a shot again, where each combatant is given a 3x5 card explaining a character role they must play during the ensuing bout, with a narrator setting the scene for the spectators.

Nighttime activities are to be announced, and will definitely include music and dancing (please bring your voice and/or an instrument...the more the merrier).

We will once again be following the tradition of "everyone helps, everyone plays." To this end, we are asking the various crews, households, and individuals to sponsor activities, bring donations for the booty auction, and chip in a bit at the event (contact the autocrats for more information). There will be a Captain's Meeting, followed by an All Hands Meeting, on Friday after dark.

Merchants: In lieu of an additional merchants' fee, we ask that you donate an item to the booty auction.

Site Fee: $8. Children 3-12 are $3, children under 3 are free Important! Minors must be accompanied by a parent or guardian, or they will not be allowed on site.

Autocrat: Malachias von Morgenstem (contact info omitted); Co-autocrat Isabelle Fisher (contact info omitted). If you would like to be involved with the ongoing planning of this event (and future events like it), send a blank email to (email).
