The Thirty-sixth Year

Purgatorio Coronation
August 24-26, 2001 (AS XXXVI)

"It was a cool, but windy event, not surprising for the site (Fort Ord), but it was a fun event.

"Morning court started on SCA-Time (late), but some of the business was fun -- Dregel Alewolf was knighted; Rose de Le Mans was admitted to the Order of the Pelican, and lots more.

"Coronation was very impressive -- Crown Prince Hauoc and Crown Princess Ginevra were escorted by a landsknecht military unit, with a good drummer, and the men carried HUGE speers/pikes. Her Highness' escort was less military -- ladies in Italian garb.

"After Coronation, a Champion's Tournament was held (note, not a "Queen's Champion's Tournament" ...) which was fun to watch, and the participants had a good time.

"Sunday morning saw some of the usual peerage meetings, followed by a short court, in which the impressive piece of business was Katherine ní Ceallaigh of Skye was asked in court (after being asked privately by Their Majesties) if she would be willing to join the Order of the Pelican, to which she responded with a hearty "Yeah, sure!".

"After that, the usual packing/schmoozing/hanging out occurred. It was a nice, low-key event, and from all I could see, everyone had a good time." -- Hirsch von Henford
