From The Page (September, 2001):
The Province of Golden Rivers welcomes all fighters to celebrate the ascendancy of autumn in a combined pas d'armes. To add to the pageantry and theatre of this event, each fighter is asked to adopt a persona from literature or legend and invoke a warrior's visage that will bring to life the very essence of the character or legend. Only those warriors who are able to charm and sway the gallery will be allowed admittance to the field of honor. As for the format of our pas d'armes, we will explore the hidden mysteries of an anonymous south German manuscript, to wit: 1-33, which features a series of attacks and counter attacks with sword and buckler. There will be a short introduction to these methods of attack after armor inspection. The first two rounds of armored combat will be limited to buckler and sword with the defenders of Golden Rivers taking on all challengers. The third round will be reserved for open challenges with other forms of matched weapons combat. The fourth round will be reserved for team challenges (i.e. 2 on 2,3 on 3, et al.) with mixed weapons. The fifth round will feature a grande melee. After the fifth round, the field will be open to all those warriors who wish to celebrate the joy of honorable combat. On the adjoining field, the rapier fighters will engage in a format of challenges that will see sword and buckler featured in the first two rounds while mixed forms of rapier combat will be the subject of subsequent rounds. The gallery is invited to picnic to their hearts' content as they feast upon this presentation of martial splendor.
