Presidio of Monterey,
From The Page (April, 2000):
Spend the weekend in gentle (and not-so-gentle) pursuit of knowledge! Spring Collegium offers an exciting array of classes, exhibits, food and dancing.
Site information: Site fee is $8 for the weekend; $5 for Saturday only; $3 for Sunday only. Site will open at 9 a.m. for check-in & registration for limited-attendance classes. Classes are an hour & twenty minutes each, and start at 9:30 am. Site closes Sunday at 5 pm.
Classes! The schedule is shaping up. So far, there are classes in bardic and juggling, costume, many types of needlework, games, knitting and lucet, dyeing, and fealty—plus a weekend-long class for learning to speak Arabic! A full schedule will be in the May Page, or online at: (website omitted).
Display! Come show off your winter projects; finished or no. This is not a competition, merely a forum for display. Documentation is not necessary, but a brief description/ explanation is highly recommended. Nothing to display? Come see what everyone else is doing! Better yet, let them know you appreciate their efforts. Notepads will be provided, compliments are encouraged.
Entertainment! The ballroom will be open for dancing after the feast, or even during the feast for the true die-hard dance fanatics. There are many cozy comers for games or conversation during the day, and a live chess match is scheduled.
Feast! Lunch will be served both days, $3 each day, kids under 10 half-price, kids under 6 free. (Yes, there's a difference from the feast — more kids eat the lunch.) We will serve the first 60 who sign up each day.
The feast will be primarily 14th c. German fare. The menu has yet to be determined; however, there will be plenty of choices for both carnivores and vegetarians. If you have any dietary restrictions, please contact Rose in advance. Feast tickets are $8, kids under 10 half price, kids under 6 free, and seating will be limited to 75.
You can pay lunch both days and the feast in advance. Send $14 and clearly indicate what you think you're paying for. Please send feast checks to Aaron of Buckminster (contact info omitted) and clearly mark the front of the envelope "Collegium Feast." Make checks payable to "West Kingdom Collegium."
Autocrats: For more information, or to add a class, please contact Juan Santiago (email) or Rose de LeMans (email) or call us at (phone).
