We invite the Known World to join us in the beautiful Kingdom of Caid for Great Western War IV, an inter Kingdom gathering to celebrate the arts of war and peace, October 4 thru 9, at Prado Regional Park, Chino, California. This year we are plarming many activities to keep everyone busy. There will be tons of fighting scenarios and tournaments. Arts & Sciences encampment and classes, a whole slew of children's activities and, of course, there will be LOTS of shopping!
Merchants, once again, the GWW brings you the best cross-section of customers this side of the Rockies. Not only will you be provided selling space but we'll also provide you with space in our Merchant Guide, including a personalized sentence regarding your discount participation in the our now famous "Saturday Evening Madness" Sale. Arts & Sciences: There will be an Arts Camp and classes offered on Saturday and Sunday. The Arts & Sciences steward is Maria Theresa Ipenarrieta, (contact info omitted).
Children's Activities: Things are well under way for Great Western War IV. As usual, many fine people of have stepped forward and offered to "play" in the Youth Pavilion. If you would like to join us as an assistant, there is still time to contact me, (contact info omitted). Our rotation set-up is quite "volunteer friendly"! Activities planned thus far: FRIDAY; Make Painted Viking Medallions, Eat Like a Medieval Person, Make Boffer Groin Protection, Make Leather Wrist Bands I, Boffer Torchlight Tourney, Youth Tavern Revel. SATURDAY; Work with Clay, Make Leather Wrist Bands II, Spin with Drop Spindles. Make Beaded Belts, Create Noise Makers and Masks for All Fooles' Parade, Make Twisted Wire Jewelry, How to Make Stained Glass Windows, Make Paper "Stained Glass" Windows, How to Juggle, Sew Bean Bags for Juggling, Learn Period Dances, Boffer Melee, All Fooles' Parade. SUNDAY: How to Win at Chess, How to Make Lace, Make Your Own Scroll. The big youth pavilion will be the central location for workshops. Boffer fighters will stay busy with Kuma's torchlight tourney and melee. All participants wiU keep track of their activities on a quest sheet, as we did last year. Points may be cashed in for prizes!
Volunteer some of your time, and some of your friends' time, at the War! The Volunteer staff is equipped with shifts to accommodate single folks to entire households any time of day or night (This is more fun than you think!) Please talk to your camping group to decide on what type of volunteering you'd like to do at the war. Then contact your friendly Volunteer Steward Taliesin at (contact info omitted), or sign up at gate when you arrive, or at headquarters anytime during the event The War is run by volunteers.
Land Allocation, RV Reservations and Special Needs: Land allocation and RV reservations are available by pre-registerlng ONLY. Please read the Web page for all the rules and regulations. The pre-registration forms will have a section for you to request a reservation for your group. Please look at the map on the Web page at [website address] to choose your 1st, 2nd and 3rd choices for spots for both land and RV spaces. Be sure your entire group uses the identical encampment name.
Those who require Special Needs are encouraged to pre-register, so as to facilitate our answering your needs. There will be a Handicapped Encampment available, centrally located to the main areas, with easy access to the paved road and restrooms. Those with medical requirements for electricity (such as sleep apnea machines) will have priority, however, to guarantee an outlet, pre-registering is a must.
After the pre-registration deadline, no further land or RV reservations will be accepted. If there are any unreserved RV spaces at the opening of the war, they will be available on a first-come-first-served basis. The park does not allow the use of generators, therefore, we encourage reserving a space to guarantee electricity. Additionally, tent trailers are considered RVs, so please, to ensure a space, pre-register. Please read the web page for full information. Important! Pre-registration must be RECEIVED (not postmarked) by September 1,2000 by the War Exchequer. Checks MUST be made payable to SCA, Inc. /Kingdom of Caid, or they will be returned, and you will not be pre-registered. Please take just a moment of your time to make sure you have filled out the entire pre-registiation form (including the bottom half for land allocation), and your check correctly before mailing, it will save you a headache later.
