The Thirty-fourth Year

Yule -- Winter's Gate

December 4, 1999 (AS XXXIV)

Moose Creek Community Center,
Moose Creek, AK

From The Page (November, 1999):

The warm hearths and warm hearts of Winter's Gate invite you to join them in a celebration of the Yuletide season at Moose Creek Community Center.

We will begin the day with the Reindeer Games, a series of mental and physical contests for the young and the young-at-heart. Next we will open up the field of battle for all comers in a "bells and pillows" prize tourney. Prior to feast, we will be having an "Argent Pachyderm" gift exchange. If you are interested in participating, please bring a gift for the exchange (home-made or limit $10 value).

Feast will be an open potluck, and we are asking for, but not requiring, a Scandinavian flavor to the meal. Please contact the autocrats if you are not sure what to bring.

Competitions: There will be a cooking contest to be judged by popular consent, with prizes for best main dish, best side dish, and best dessert (Note: the autocrats have decreed that chocolate *is* period for this event). All dishes will be entered in the contest unless otherwise requested.

The Winter's Gate Brewer's Guild is sponsoring a contest for spiced ciders and ales (alcoholic or non). Other contests include a) Tynan's Whim: Yule Tree ornaments (bring a Yule Tree ornament that you have crafted to help decorate our Yule Tree), and b) Grimr's Whim: Best Original Filk of a Christmas Song or Poem (to be performed during feast). After feast and clean-up, we will retire to the house of Grimr, Tynan, and Taran for a Bardic Circle.

Come join Winter's Gate for an afternoon of feasting and festivities! The site opens at 11am, with activities beginning at 12 noon. Contact the autocrat for directions. The site fee is $2.00.

Autocrat: Grimr (contact info omitted).

Description of this event (if any), taken from The Page, or from memory of at least one person who attended the event.
