First Sword and Hood of Esfenn Tournaments -- Esfenn

August 20-22, 1999 (AS XXXIV)

Bort Meadows,
Oakland, CA

From The Page (August, 1999):

Come spend a relaxing weekend with the Shire of Esfenn in beautiful Bort Meadows. Enjoy the cool summer breeze, the glory of nature, and the fighters beating each other senseless.

Attention all fighters: Are you tired of going to tournaments and watching other people fight, waiting for your turn with unbridled anticipation? Well, wait no longer, and come to the First Sword of Esfenn Tournament. There will be nothing but melees all day long to sate the most ardent of fighters. The First Sword melee rounds will be alternated with prize melee rounds, which will include, but are not limited to, an Immortals melee (known to some as the Apple Sauce melee), Valhallan, Shastan, single-sword and four-man melees, and the probable return of the Cat-and-Mouse melee. Armor inspection will start at 9:30 a.m.; fighting will start at 11:00 a.m. Fighters are asked to bring a prize of any kind to donate to the prize pool (make it good-you may win it!).

The (Archery) Hood of Esfenn Tournament will be held Saturday afternoon. The competition will be announced on site.

There will be a potluck Saturday night. Please bring your own drinks and a dish to feed eight (8), categorized by mundane last name: A-G dessert; H-Q main dish; and R-Z -side dish.

Site Information: The site opens at 3:00 p.m. Friday and closes at 12 noon Sunday. Site fee is $6/person; please make checks payable to "SCA Inc., Shire of Esfenn."

Autocrat: Duke Fabian Arnett von Schwetzingen (contact info omitted).
