Archery Field, Golden Gate Park,
San Francisco, CA
From The Page (June, 1999):
On Saturday, July 17, Cloondara welcomes all to our annual Debardchery Tourney! The site is the Archery Field in Golden Gate Park in San Francisco. The site opens at 9:00 a.m. At 11:00 a.m., we will hold an Archer's Auction where in the populace may bid on their favorite archer, whose winning score will win a prize for his highest bidder. The IKAC and IKCAC prize competitions begin at 11:30 a.m.; crossbows are not allowed on the field.
Cloondara will once again offer the Caper Toss competition (requiring use of provided mitten armor gauntlets). Other amusement will include the annual prize bardic competitions and best period dish. There will also be a Fish-Fling (points for style) and a Loaf-Lob (accuracy) contest. We will, hopefully, have a return of the Flying Phoenix of Fate (distance). Other competitions will be announced.
The bardic prize competition is as follows: Cloondara recognizes that certain persons have improved the SCA by their contribution of time and ability; Cloondara wants to up their recognition by collecting stories from any of the populace that may contribute to 'cannonization of our saints' Thus, Cloondara's Bard will sponsor as well prize for the winner of the contest of stories that recognize the feats of our "Saints" Of course, stories should be heavily embellished (and not entirely true - tall tale telling heartily encouraged, but nothing mean-spirited). Suggested persons "targeted for cannonization" (the bard assures the translator that 'cannonization' is spelled correcdy) are: Tangwystyl, Dukes Frederick of Holland (Flieg) and Radnor of Guildemar, Duchess Juana Isabella de Montoya y Ramirez, and the Baron of Darkwood. O f course, write-in candidates are acceptable, as there are many others who contribute. We welcome anyone to perform even if you do not wish to participate in the competitions.
We will have a potluck picnic. Please bring a dish based on your mundane last name as follows: A-E = side dish or salad, F-N= main dish, O-Z = desserts. Please bring sunshades to share. The site can be windy and cool; we suggest you bring additional layers for warmth. Closing time is approximately 5:00 p.m.
Autocrat: Gwenyth of Household Heath (contact info omitted).
Site fee will be $5; children under 16 free.
