Medieval Encampment -- Wuduholt be Secg

August 20-26, 1999 (AS XXXIV)

Crescent City, CA

From The Page (August, 1999):

What could be better than camping in the scenic and cool Shire of Wuduholt be Secg for a week during our rendition of the Medieval Encampment? Not much! You'll be able to set up and then sit back doing nothing i n particular while waiting for Purgatorio Coronation to start August 27 Con the same site)! Take your time to enjoy the local countryside, expansive beaches, and beautiful rivers, while avoiding the rush to find camping space for the upcoming coronation. The camping will be in the trees (forest battle area) of the West-An Tir War site, eight miles north of Crescent City, CA. And for those who can't make it for the whole week (starting Friday, August 20), there will be a sliding site-fee scale as the week progresses.

Activities for the first weekend will include a heavy-fighter Ransom Tournament, a Scavenger Hunt for smalls, and a medieval ganie exposition for fun and profit. During this long event, you're encouraged to bring those in-progress arts and sciences projects to show off to the rest of us and maybe compare notes or such. Also, we are trying to arrange a calm float down the Smith River somednie during the latter part of the week. It should be a great week of fun and relaxation!

Please be prepared for cool nights, around 50 degrees with fog. Everyone is encouraged to hring potable water. There might not be any on site until Purgatorio, but there are lots of stores nearby for your needs. The weather should be great, but you'll want to bring mosquito repellent and sun block and rain gear (you never know on the north coast). All pets must be leashed. West Kingdom fire laws prohibit open flanies (tiki torches, candles, etc.) on site or inside pavilions. All fires must be raised 18 Inches above the ground. Some type of fire extinguisher (the real thing, a bucket of water or sand, etc.) must be near all fires. All fires must be attended while burning. Site will open at 3:00 p.m. Friday, August 20. Anyone on site Friday, August 27, will be charged the Purgatorio site fee (see Purgatorio event copy). We'll see you there!

Site fee: This can be confusing, so please read it carefully. Assuming you are staying through Thursday, August 26, the site fee is as follows:
-$10 per person if you arrive on Friday, August 20;
-$8 per person, Saturday or Sunday;
-$6 per person, Monday or Tuesday;
-$4 per person, Wednesday or Thursday.
Half price for children 4 to 12 years; babes 3 and under FREE. There will be a $30 cap for families of four or more on any given day. Day-trippers and persons wishing to come during the first weekend, set up, leave, and then come back for Purgatorio will be charged only $5 per person; $3 for children 4 to 12 years; babes 3 and under free (as usual). All persons on site Friday, August 27, will be charged the Purgatorio site fee (see Purgatorio event copy).

Merchants: You are welcome to come early and set up, but you'll need to contact the Merchant Liaison for Purgatorio to reserve space (of which there is plenty) and arrange for payment of fees. Merchant Liaison for Purgatorio: Maude (contact info omitted).

Autocrat: Thorkil Stormchaser (contact info omitted).
