The Thirty-third Year

West / An Tir War

July 2-5, 1998 (AS XXXIII)

(?),
Crescent City, CA

From The Page (June, 1998):

Wuduholt be Secg is ready for the mighty armies of An Tir and the West to converge on the cool north coast for WAR!!! This year's war will be held on 110 acres of easily accessible ranch land close to public river access. There is little shade, but temperatures shouldn't exceed 75 degrees, as a cool breeze blows off the nearby ocean. Please be prepared for cool nights, around 50 degrees with fog. Everyone is encouraged to bring potable water, as the limited supply we have will go to the fighters first. Plenty of non-potable water will be on site along with an abundance of privies. Be prepared; please bring mosquito repellent and sun block ... and rain gear (you never know on the coast). All pets must be leashed. West Kingdom fire laws prohibit open flames (i.e. tiki torches, candles, etc.) on site or inside pavilions. Ail fires must be raised 18 inches above the ground. Some type of fire extinguisher (the real thing or a bucket of water or sand) must be near all fires. All fires must be attended while burning. Gentles who wish to bring their steeds for equestrian activities are welcome. Unfortunately, no rental horses are available in this area. Please call the autocrat for details. Site opens at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, July 2, and closes at 5:00 p.m., Sunday, July 5.

The battle field is large and relatively flat with a big forested area for excellent woods battles. There will be fighting on both Friday, July 3, and Saturday, July 4. We are planning to have two castles this year for siege and resurrection battles with lots of fighting being planned on both days for all melee and missile combatants!!! WAR! WAR! WAR! BE PREPARED TO SHOW YOUR FIGHTER AUTHORIZATION CARD - BE PREPARED TO SHOW A CURRENT MEMBERSHIP CARD or SIGN A FIGHTING WAIVER. Every fighter must meet the minimum armor requirements of the Kingdom in which they reside and must be inspected by a marshal from their Kingdom. There will be no maximum pike length. All of the scenarios will have the standard killing from behind. Get the fighter's attention (without striking the opponent) and inform them they have been killed.

In addition to killing from behind, we will allow "YIELDING." Getting an opponent to yield is accomplished in the same manner as killing from behind except that instead of informing the opponent they have been killed you may ask them to yield instead. If the opponent does not yield, they are to consider themselves killed from behind. If the opponent yields, you may then request a ransom. If you accept their ransom offer, the fighter may go back to their Kingdom's banner and rejoin the fighting. If you decline their offer, they are to consider themselves dead. Yielding and payment of ransom is strictly voluntary and no fighter is required to yield.

Site fee: $5.00 per person; $2.00 for children 3 to 12; babes 2 and under are FREE.

Merchants: Contact the Deputy for Merchant Relations for this event to reserve space: Viscontessa Mariam de Xaintrialles (contact info omitted).

Autocrat: Baron Thorkil Stormchaser (contact info omitted).
