The Thirty-third Year

Prize Tourney -- Montagne du Roi

February 27-28, 1999 (AS XXXIII)

Fort Ord,
Monterey, CA

From The Page (January, 1999):

Hear ye! Hear ye! The canton of Montagne du Roi invites all good gentles to participate in and witness the great deeds done on the tourney field as we hold our annual Prize Tourney. Saturday will be filled with contests of skill, strength, and daring for combatants and non-combatants alike. Activities will include the tourney and assorted melees (including a Blind Man's Melee, in which you must use the Force, young Luke...). For those unsatisfied with rattan carnage, a life size dummy (the inanimate kind - ed) with SCA legal armour on which to try out your live steel or the provided flange mace will be available. The will be a basket lunch auction for both Lords and Ladies; all are encouraged to participate. An open display of Arts and Sciences will be set up to encourage the showing of winter projects. Archery will be held on Sunday, including target and a light's trail upon which combat skills may be honed, and the sad remains of Saturday's dummy will be set up for bodkin points.

The site is the former Fort Ord, and camping will be available from noon on Friday through the end of Sunday's events. The site will open for the day Saturday at 9:00 a.m., with fighting to begin at 10:30a.m. Sunday's activities will begin at 11:00 a.m. Site fee is $5, good for both days.
