The Thirty-second Year

Pas de Fop II -- Betony Woods

May 18, 1997 (AS XXXII)

North Laguna Park,
Sacramento, CA

From The Page (May, 1997):

Come to Betony Wood for our second Paux De Fop championship games tourney at North Laguna Park in south Sacramento. Event times: 9:30am to 6;00pm. Join us for a day of frivolity! We seek someone who is quick, cunning and dresses with panache to be the champion of Betony Wood.

The events for the day include table games like El tablero, Ming Mang, Pente and Mancala from Afrika, to be taught. Lawn games include Bocci ball and Simon says. Points will be given for most foppish outfit, foppish manners and game paticipation. Prizes will be awarded to "Top Fop" and game winners, so anyone could be our champion! There is no potable water on site. There is a new play ground near a pond.

Autocrat: Lord Simon Tobias DeCordova (contact info omitted).

Site Fee: $3.00 adults, 12 and under free.

"The Pas du Fop replaced our Annual Prize Tourney. Each person played double-elimination rounds of chess, Nine-man-morris, and Backgammon. Each contestant also had the opportunity to participate in a dance lesson and competition. And extra points were awarded for “foppishness”. The ultimate result was that a non-fighter (I don’t recall his name, but he’s Merriana Loveman’s brother) became the Champion of Betony Wood. As you can see from the photos, this was a chilly day. It was also probably the windiest day we had that spring." -- Alison Gray of Owlwood
