Bardic Competition -- Principality of the Mists

This year the Mists Bardic will be held at the First Baptist Church of Palo Alto. (THIS SITE IS SUBJECT TO CHANGE- PLEASE SEE THE SEPTEMBER PAGE FOR FINAL SITE INFORMATION). This is a dry site. The competition wiU begin by 2 pm, an hour after the site opens. The theme will be a "Canterbury Tales Feast" so be prepared to eat a bounteous meal and to be regaled by all manner of stories, songs, and poetry. The feast will once again be prepared by the talented Lady Rowan the Capricious.

The competition is constructed to allow the contestants to demonstrate their skill and knowledge of any and all aspects of the bardic arts as well as their knowledge of the people and customs of the Society. The winner will be called to serve the Principality as Bard of the Mists and must be able to uphold this position with artistry, honor, and courtesy.

The order of the day will be:

First Round: A period piece (story, song, poem, sung, played, spoken, etc.) with documentation.

Second Round: An original piece in a period style with documentation.

Third Round: Bard's Choice "a piece about a chivalric act that you have witnessed or heard tell of" (pieces of a non-serious nature and non-SCA related are acceptable.)

Fourth Round; Master work does not have to be original, but should show off your abilities.

Fifth Round: Impromptu create a piece using 3 words pulled out of a hat. You have 15 minutes (bring writing materials).
