From The Page (May, 1996):
Come and join The Shire of Esfenn in determining the next First Sword of Esfenn. This is the tourney that includes the infamous Mouse Melee. We will follow the tourney with a potluck feast. The competition for the Troubadour of Esfenn will be held during the feast. Please note: local mundane law prohibits pets and merchanting.
The tourney will include a series of melees, to be determined by our current First Sword, Duke Frederick of Holland. The lists will be open from 10am until noon. Fighting will begin immediately thereafter. In addition, there will be several prize melees. There will be other games and entertainments available and the populace is invited to bring their favorites as well. Please call the autocrat if you plan to bring a sunshade. The Troubadour competition consists of performance of one musical piece and one non-musical piece. The pieces can be original or or by another author and should be in pre-17th century style.
The site opens at 9am and the feast hall at 4pm. The site fee is $5.00 per person. There is a small kitchen for warming food. Please bring the appropriate dish based on your mundane last name: A-H: sides and salads, I-S: main courses (including vegetarian), and T-Z: desserts.
Autocrat: Caitlin Dhuin n`a n`ean (contact info omitted)
