White Shield Tournament and Feast -- Darkwood

March 8, 1997 (AS XXXI)

Prunedale Grange Hall,
Prunedale, CA

From The Page (February, 1997):

Long and long have the ideals of chivalry blossomed in this realm. In celebration of the coming of spring and the dawning of a new year of chlvalric competition, the Barony of Darkwood prepares the White Shield - a festive day of sport-fighting, gaming, and feasting - to honour the ideals of chivalry and of courtly love. A tournament will there be to test the mettle, hone the skill, and liven the spirit of our men and maids of arms, brave and fair, Music and gaiety and friendly games of intellect shall call to those not otherwise occupied this day.

A sumptuous and savoury feast do we plan to lay before thee at the day's close. The board shall consist of dishes from the Celtic lands. Think you this means Irish or Scottish fare, only? Nay, gentle reader! The Celts ranged far and had great influence on the culture of many peoples, who adopted and adapted the Celtic dishes. {For those who may fear that a feast of the Celts need be wild and uncivilized, we of the Barony of Darkwood hasten to assure you that the splendour and grace that is White Shield shall be meticulously upheld! The glory that is the tournament and feast of White Shield invites all to present themselves at their best!}
