The Thirty-first Year

Baroness' Masked Ball -- Darkwood

December 14, 1996 (AS XXXI)

Corralitos Grange Hall,
Corralitos, CA

From The Page (December, 1996):

Winter is right around the corner! Colder weather means it's time to bundle up and cover up! Speaking of covering up, the Masked Ball is the perfect opportunity to don a mark and masquerade as some else! The theme for this year's masked ball is "Fantasy Masquerade!" (Things are not what they seem!) There will be mask making classes and dance instruction during the day in preparation for the evening's festivities. Arts competition will be our annual mask competition, and a 60-second skit in which you show off your mask. You may have recorded background music if you wish. Science competitions are Cordials and Period Cooking (open). We will also be having an Afternoon Tea in honor of our beloved Baroness Elizabeth of the Blue Rose (about noon). Please bring a snack to share... tea will be provided.

During the day we will have a Masquerade Tournament. The Lists open at 10a.m., armor inspection at 11 a.m., and fighting at noon. This is a masquerade in which you attempt to disguise your identity throughout the tourney so bring a shield cover or blank shield —or whatever!

We have a new site this year with a very large hall, so are requesting that people bring their banners for display! Extra tables and chairs are appreciated. The site opens at 10:00. The feast will be potluck, beginning at 5:00pm, with pastas provided by the Barony. Please bring a side dish feeding 6-8 people according to your last name: A-P: side dish. Q-Z: dessert. Feasting is followed by the masquerade, entertainment, dancing, music! Come and revel!

Site fee: $5.00 for the day plus pot luck; Day attendance only is $2.

Autocrats: Doreen Dragonet of Darkstone Castie (contact info omitted), and Rowan Oldway of Oakhaven (contact info omitted), Fightocrat: Braun Aus Krefeld (contact info omitted).
