From The Page (September, 1995):
The Shire of Canale, though weak in forces, guards the Kingdom's southern border with the Kingdom of Caid. This weakness tempts Caid, and only the readiness and willingness of the fighters of our Kingdom to come to the aid of the shire protects the rich Cynaguan plains from the ruinous Caidian chevauchees.
Prince Clavell of the Mists has declared that by History and common interests Canale is part of His Domain, and that the Mists can better defend the Kingdom's southern border.
Prince Thorstag of Cynagua has responded that through Tradition and desire the shire is, and will remain, part of His Principality — through force of arms if necessary.
To settle this dispute. Their Majesties have declared that a War shall be fought between the forces of Their Principalities to determine which of the Princes can better defend the southern end of the Kingdom. Therefore, let all fighters of the Kingdom marshal with their respective Prince and to show which can better guard the Shire of Canale.
The War will be held at Laird Park, south of Modesto. This site is new to us and is owned by the Stanislaus County Sheriff's Dept. While the park is well kept up, there is *N0* potable water on site, so bring drinking water. The site is also near the river, so please watch your children. There are some flush privies on site, but no showers. Dogs must be leashed at all times.
