Mountain's Gate's fourth annual Viking tourney will take place at noon Friday, August 12 through 5 p.m. Sunday, August 14. The site fee is $ 7, persons 12 and under are free. When not under Viking occupation, the site is known as the Amador County Fair Grounds. The site features flush privies, running water and showers.
Planned Viking fighting activities will consist of; Viking round shield tourney (32 inch round center grip shields only, loaners available), boarding raids; gunnel battles and an obstacle course.
Other Viking games are also planned (steal the sheep, axe throwing and pugil jousting). There will also be a cooking competition. Entries are to be sea rations, at least two weeks old, no refrigeration, extra points from period packaging and for anything that actually tastes good. All entries must be edible and not dangerous to our judges.
The Valkyries will be about on late Saturday to carry off fallen warriors (or other likely prospects) to Valhalla.
Merchants are welcome and are reminded of the royal decree requiring valid re-sale credentials.
