Baroness' Masquerade Ball and Tournament -- Darkwood

December 10, 1994 (AS XXIX)

Machado Schoolhouse,
Morgan Hill, CA

From The Page (November, 1994):

In honor of Darkwood's Baroness, Mistress Elizabeth of the Blue Rose, we are gathering for the Baroness' Masquerade Ball and Tournament on Saturday, December 10, 1994 at the Machado Schoolhouse in Morgan Hill. The site opens at 9 am and will close at 11 pm. The site fee is $4 per person.

As the day unfolds, a variety of activities will be offered. There will be dance instruction and practice for the fun of it. There will be mask-making instruction with materials provided ($1 fee, please). The Arts competition will be Best Handmade Mask. The Sciences competition will be Period Fortune-Telling Tools. The Cooking competition will be Best Dish in Honour of the Baroness.

The highlight of the day will be the Masquerade Tournament. There will be a prize for the winner of this double-elimination tourney. Lists open at l0am with a $1 List fee. Armour inspection at 11 am precedes the opening of the tourney at noon. Remember, this is a masquerade: fighters must bring a blank shield (or blank shield cover), use an SCA pseudonym, and attempt to disguise their identity throughout the tourney.

Fightocrat: Hans van Wolfholz (name/contact info).

The Baroness' Potluck will follow the tourney at approximately 5 pm. Dish allocations are by mundane last name: A-H side dish or salad, I-P main dish or meat, Q-Z cheese and bread or dessert. In the spirit of SCA generosity, please remember that each dish should feed 6-8 people per adult attending. Thank you.

The highlight of the evening will be the Masquerade Ball. The donning of masks will be called for at approximately 8 pm. Complete masquerade costuming would be delightful and is heartily encouraged! Come dance with us and join us in carols of the season!

Autocrat: Ceara MacDonald (name/contact info).
