Site: Gardner's Cove Resort, Modesto, CA
From The Page (February, 1994):
Start off your camping season right with the fun and pageantry of March Crown at Gardner's Cove Resort near Modesto. This is the same site we used for March Crown last year. We will be using the same grassy area near the river this year, camping in a horse shoe shape around the list field. There will be a quiet camp in the grove south of the fighting field. No drums, horns, or loud partying after midnight on Friday or Saturday.
The water on site is said to be potable, but bringing your own water is recommended. Due to the season, the presence of spiders and sand fleas that we have encountered in the past should be reduced, but continue to be careful. There is a small store on site, that will be well stocked with ice and drinks and is cheaper than the next nearest stores. There are also a few flush privies and showers a small distance from camp. There are lost of trees for shade and the site shouldn't be too dusty in March. The San Joaquin River borders the site and the camping area with steep cliffs; parents must keep track of their children. No swimming in the river is allowed due to quicksand. Pets are allowed on leash only. Kingdom fire rules are in effect; no ground fires and all raised fires must be watched.
The site fee is S5 per person. S2 for children 12 and under. The new merchant guidelines will be in effect for this event; merchants please contact the merchant liaison for copies of the guidelines or to reserve space.
Competitions: Arts; outerwear/riding wear, and embroidery on a garment Sciences; bags and pouches Pied d'Argent; Saracen's Bransle.
Autocrat: Morgan Conner (name/contact info).
