The Twenty-seventh Year

Novice Tourney and Prize Tourney -- Solais Mor

April 17, 1993 (AS XXVII)

Site: Concannon Winery, Livermore, CA

From The Page (March, 1993):

Come one and all to a day of glorious combat. Two tourneys will be held. The first is a novice tourney open to fighters who have been authorized less than two years and who have never won a tourney. Sorry, if you've been fighting three years but haven't won, you're not eligible. The second tourney of the day, open to all fighters, will be one of three formats depending on how many fighters enter the lists. First choice for five fighters or less will be a round robin tourney, second option is a triple elimination/ first round no shield for a group of 6 to 12 fighters. If over 12 fighters show up we will try a warlord tourney.

There will be a bottle cutting contest if time permits so bring your sharpened live steel. For those who are not yet fighters, there will be scout games and a javelin shoot. Bring your javelins. Board games will be set up and a tournament will be organized if their are enough interested people to enter. Bring a picnic lunch, cheer on your favorite fighter and just have fun. The list will open at 10 a.m. for both tourneys and fighting will begin promptly at 11 a.m.

Autocrat: Gwenllhian Rhiannon (name/phone).

From The Page (April, 1993):

Our day of tourneys has turned into a festival. The Concannon Winery in Livermore has asked us to have our event at their winery to celebrate their centennial plus a decade in Livermore. They have offered us space if we provide entertainment and revelry for the public.

We are still going to fight two lists. The first is a novice tourney open to fighters who have been authorized less than two years and have never won a tourney. The second list will be open to all fighters and will be a round robin for five fighters or less contestants, a triple elimination/ first round no shield for a group of 6 to 12 fighters and if over 12 fighters show up we will try a warlord tourney. Other activities during the day will include: a bottle cutting contest so bring your sharpened live steel;. a javelin toss; and we will have board games set up too.

We are encouraging dancing, singing and merchants to delight the public. There will be a roasting pit and food will be for sale throughout the day. Feel free to bring a picnic-lunch.

There is absolutely NO site fee or merchant fee. Merchants should bring their own tables. Dancers should contact the autocrat to coordinate activities. We need to know how many people are coming who are planning to dance, perform and merchant. Everyone else can just show up.

The site is open at 9 a.m., fighting list for both tourneys start at 10 and the novice tourney starts promptly at 11 a.m.

Autocrat: Gwenllhian Rhiannon (name/phone).
