(Quick story catchup -- Pantalone thinks the woman he's after (Columbina) is his daughter, and that his daughter is Columbina. He wants her to drink something with the love potion he bought from Fiorinetta in it ... Arlecchino (Capitano's servant) thinks he might be in love with Columbina as well ... the lovers all prepare to read their sonnets, with masks on (at Brighella's instigation, of course). The following is just before Brighella sells Capitano his sonnet and mask -- Brighella has insulted Arlechino, and they're pretending to attach each other): Capitano: Please, gentlemen, no bloodshed. For if I but see the sight of blood, my martial instincts will be aroused, and I will ... Brighella and Arlecchino: You'll what? Capitano: I ... refuse to fight less than a hundred men at a time! (At which point Brighella asks the audience if they're up for it, at which point Arlecchino comes to Capitano's defense with a bit about the money ...) |
