The Twenty-sixth Year

Mists Bardic Competition and Feast

September 21, 1991

From The Page (August, 1991):

The competition to select the new Bard of the Mists will take place on Saturday, 21 September, at the Church Hall of Saint Alban's Episcopal Church, (address) in Albany. The hall will open at 1 P.M., and the competition will begin at 2:30 P.M ... Everyone left in the hall after 10 P.M. is part of the clean-up crew.

Categories for the competition are:

  1. Period piece. Documentation is required.
  2. Original piece in a period style. This piece must be less than one year old. Documentation of the style will be appreciated.
  3. "Masterpiece". Not necessarily your fanciest piece, but the one you feel is most representative of your "best" work.
  4. "Bard's Choice"-Fabulous Creatures. A new (less than one year old) song, poem, etc. featuring one or more fabulous creatures (mermaid, unicorn, dragon, troll, etc.).
  5. Impromptu. Song, story, poem, etc. based on and including three words drawn out of a hat. 15 minutes to prepare.

Members of the Order of the Golden Branch who are attending the competition should contact the current Bard, Frederick of Holland, if they are willing to help judge. Potential competitors are also invited to contact Frederick. You don't have to do so to be able to enter, but he would like to know approximately how many competitors to expect.

In honor of Their Highnesses, the competition will be accompanied by a German feast prepared by Keridwen ferch Morgan Glasfryn. The menu has not yet been set, but will be both plentiful and delicious.

Since the hall is rather small, we are limited in the number of tickets we are able to offer. Only 70 feast tickets are available, and there is limited seating for off-board attendees. If you would like to reserve a ticket, either for the feast or for off-board seating, send a check payable to "Principality of the Mists-SCA Inc." to (address). If you want to be sure that tickets are still available, call Eilis and Kathrine first. Tickets are $10 per person with the feast and $5 without the feast.

If you would like to be a server, contact Krysta of Starfall at (phone). If you would like to compete, contact Frederick of Holland at (phone). If you have any questions, contact the autocrats, Eilis O'Boirne and Kathrine of Bristol, at (phone).
