The Twenty-sixth Year

Court of Love and Prize Tourney -- Borderwinds

February 8, 1992 (AS XXVI)

From The Page (November, 1991):

In honor of our lord Protector and lady of Love and Beauty, we will be holding, a "Roman Feast"-as would have been done in the Middle Ages, held at the Minami Center in Santa Maria, CA. There will be a prize tournament (showers available) on-site during the day, and a 'Court' of Love in the evening.

We are seeking entertainers. No camping, but limited crash space is available if requested in advance.

Autocrat: Karen of the Emerald Sea (phone)

From The Page (January, 1992):

In honor of the Lord Protector and Lady of Love and Beauty of the Canton, Borderwinds will hold its Court of Love from 10:00 A.M. to 10:00 A.M. This year's theme will be a Roman! Greek Feast, take your pick, and appropriate garb is strongly suggested.

There will be a magnificent Prize Tourney during the day, followed by the Court of Love that evening. The day's schedule is as follows: site opens 10:00 AM.; lists close at NOON; the tourney should conclude by 5:00 P.M.; feast site opens 5:30 P.M.; feast will be served promptly at 6:00 P.M.; site closes 10:00 P.M.

The tournament will be run as a challenge tourney, with fighters drawing a challenge from a hat. The main prize for the tourney will be a beautifully hand-sewn cape. There are many other wonderful prizes, as well.

There are showers on site. This is not a camping event, but crash space is available if requested in advance. Also, no alcohol is permitted (non-alcoholic drinks will be provided with the feast). Please bring your own feasting gear, and any table adornments you desire. This feast is for adults, it is recommended that children not attend the feast.

The feast will consist of hearty herbed beef stew, marinated chicken, herbed rice, rice with mushrooms, fresh fruits, green salad, candied carrots, bread, baklava, and completely decadent chocolate fudge. We will serve mulled and cold ciders for drinking.

Tickets for this event are: $8.00 including feast and site fee; $4.00 site fee. Tickets are available now (send SASE), and these prices will be good until the end of January. After that, feast tickets will go to $12.00. 1n other words, GET YOUR FEAST TICKETS EARLY!

There will be dancing, much merry making, as well as our all-encompassing court of love. All are encouraged to bring their matters of love to the wise counsel of our Lady of Love and Beauty. There will be a wonderful variety of entertainment for the Court, but we are always seeking new entertainers for this event. Please contact the autocrat if you are interested in providing entertainment.

Autocrat: Karen of the Emerald Sea (name/contact info).
