West/An Tir War -- Kingdom of the West

July 6-9, 1990 (AS XXV)

From The Page (May, 1990):

War! War! War! The Kingdoms of the West & An Tir will gather on WEST KINGDOM SOIL for mighty combat in the Canton of Wuduholt be Secg, Barony of Allyshia, on July 6-9. Site opens at 9 am on Friday & closes 6 pm on Monday. War scenarios will occur on Saturday & Sunday. More war information will be available in next month's "Page".

The site is on State land, with walking trails to a lake & the ocean. Fires need to be up off the ground, with the exception of the Bardic Circle. Merchants are welcome as long as they are SCA members, have SCA appropriate wares, & locate their booths in the Merchants Area. (No alcohol may be sold.) The State has asked that we not bring pets to the site. There is tall grass on a sand base, so long wooden tent pegs are suggested. This is near the ocean, with moderate temperatues & fog a posiblity. It is within 3.5 miles of town, with plenty of markets, motels, etc.

From The Page (June, 1990):

Fighters of the West! Heed the call of King James and Queen Verena & gather for war with An Tir ON WEST KINGDOM SOIL. We meet for combat in the Canton of Wuduholt be Secg, Barony of Allyshia, on July 6-9.

The Councils of War are still making plans, however the site itself promises interesting activities. There are 100+ acres of varied terrain, including grassy plains, forest, & (probably) dry marsh grass. There are 2 low, wooded ridges flanked by a plain, a long narrow valley, & a ravine, & bisected by 2 passes. (All on a scale big enough for war, but small enough to be manageable.) The Park Rangers have okayed combat archery, but NO target archery.

There will be a performance competition on Saturday evening -- singing, stories, dancing, etc.; We hope to have this count toward war points for the entrant's Kingdom, but this is not certain. (Check the July Page or write/call the Autocrat.) There will be an arts competition for the best heraldic war tabbard (one sturdy enough in which to fight).

Site opens at 9 am on Friday & closes 6 pm on Monday. SITE FEE is $5 for 16 years & older, $2 for 6-15 year olds, & under 6 free. There is a $10 fee for merchants, who must be SCA members, have SCA appropriate wares (no alcohol), & locate their booths on Merchants Row. This is a 'wet' site, but the Rangers ask that we keep it calm. This is on State land, with walking trails to a lake (1.1 miles) & the ocean (1.4 miles). Fires need to be up off the ground, with shovel & water handy. No pets. Water is being trucked onto site, so bring containers. There is tall grass on a sand base; long wooden tent pegs are suggested. We are near the ocean, with moderate temperatures, some wind, & fog a possibility. It is within 3.5 miles of town, with plenty of markets, motels, etc.
