"... King Eric had declared that on this day, he was going to be "the one and only Eric" and called all those who were named Eric to come into court. Eric (and permutations thereof) being one of the more popular names in the West, there assembled quite a crowd. Each Eric was handed a card which had a new name on it; he was to be addressed by that name for the remainder of the day. Eric Holdstar was assigned the name of "Ham of Hocking" quite deliberately -- Eric is a butcher in mundane life. When the time came for his Knighting, there followed a great discussion in which King Eric, Earl Geoffrey, and Viscount Garth debated whether Eric Holdstar should be knighted as "Sir Eric" or as "Sir Ham." The King decided that a dispensation should be made, and so Sir Eric Holdstar he is to this day. Too bad -- I kinda liked "Sir Ham."" -- Tatiana Nikolaevna Tumanova
