From The Page (May, 1990):
Spring has come with its warmth, welcome & new life. In celebration of coming out of the dismalness of Winter into the newly bright sun, the Province of Southern Shores is hosting its Newcomer's Tourney. Both newcomers & the renewed at heart are invited to share in this Spring day of Saturday, May 19. The tourney will be held at John D. Morgan park in Campbell. Site fee is $2. There iwll be 2 fighter's lists, the 1st being the traditional Newcomer's list for fighters who have been in the SCA 2 years or less & who have never won a Coronet or Crown list. The 2nd list will be a prize list for all fighters. We will start the festivities & list sign-up at 10 in the moring & will close the list sign-uyp at noon. For non-fighters we are having many & various activities. Contests will include a short essay or poem on "What the SCA means to me," a cooking contest (anything made with pine-nuts), an on-site colouring contest as well as other on-site games. Oh, bring your filled pouches for there will be a raffle of wonderous & useful items.
This year we will not be having a revel, but we will be having instead an afternoon tea & dessert potluck. Bring a picnic lunch & enjoy the Spring day, then come & share your special dessert. The Autocrats are supplying the tea (iced as we expect a warm day).
