From The Page (December, 1990):
The Barony of Eskalya invites one and all to revisit the 'Kingdom' of Sicily, the trade and cultural crossroads of the medieval world, for Oerthan Winter Coronet, at Viking hall: (address), Anchorage Alaska.
Since traders and goods from Kiev to Cathay and points in between pass through Sicily on their way to much of Europe and the Court was known as a meeting-place for the Arts, Sciences, and customs of many cultures, Islamic included, we hope an equally varied mixture of gentles will attend. This is the perfect opportunity to resurrect that Byzantine, Oriental, or Middle Eastern garb you wore one time, then ended up leaving in your garb chest, but please bear in mind that this IS Oertha in January! Cloaks are a GOOD thing!!
Contests sponsored to date are Period Rugs in Any Mode, Cutwork Jewelry in Precious Metals (gold, silver, copper & bronze/brass), and Autocrats' Whim-Desserts in any Mode. Their Highness' Whim-Gryphons in Any Mode (they're up to the garrets in parrots!?) and Table Setting Best Fitting Your Persona, (may be a group/Household effort as well as individuals or couples). Also the Princess' Whim-the plural form for MORE THAN two Viscountesses; in 25 words or MORE, written or oral (songs or poems are good) to be read or presented during the feast on Saturday night. To get you started, think in terms of fish in schools, a gaggle of geese, a murder of crows (honestl), a pod of whales, etc.
