The Twenty-fifth Year

Ducal Prize Tournament

August 31-September 3, 1990 (AS XXV)

From The Page (July, 1990):

The day is approaching ... it's getting closer by the minute. DUCAL PRIZE AS XXV is almost here! Fighting! Prizes! Competitions! Auctions! Garage Sale! And the amazing win-a-pavillion Raffle!

It happens from Friday, August 31 through Monday, September 3, raising funds to benefit the Land Fund of the West Kingdom. There will be competitions of many types, with prizes for all winners --

ARTS & SCIENCES: reliquaries, heraldic display 1 (your device or badge on a shield) & heraldic display 2 (on anything other than cloth, paper, or a shield), brewing, period costume, blazoning & emblazoning, bardic composition (knights serious & humorous, Broadway Filk, & bards with documentation), & others.

OTHER: pandy-anything (except weapons), gargoyles, sacrificial offering (must be non-harmful to man or beast), sumo wrestling, tug-of-war, & others.

The Sea Rat Inn will be there selling food, beverages, & ice cream (and maybe showers). The auctions will offer you the opportunity to buy fantastic goods & services. Somebody will get a brand new pavillion from the raffle, courtesy of Dragonwing. And the Garage Sale offers deals & bargains that are beyond belief.

For more information, or if you can help with donations, contact Sula von Pferdenthal at (phone). [NOTE: Sula will be unavailable for information purposes through most of June. If anyone has any serious questions that just can't wait, they should probably channel them through Eilis O'Boirne (phone) until Sula returns in the early days of July. GRIGORRII TATAROSKII]

***** IMPORTANT NOTICE *****

There has been a site change for Ducal Prize. The event will NOT be at Lion's Grove Park in Marysville -- we choose not to compete with a soccer tournament. Thanks to the efforts of the Lady of the Swan, Ekaterina von Pferdberg, we have obtained another site.

Ducal Prize will take place from Friday, 31 August, to Monday, 3 September, at the Colusa County Fairgrounds in Colusa. The site has green grass, trees, & some flush privies. It does not have swimming, but it does have hot showers & plenty of parking. As far as we know, there are no other events scheduled for the fairgrounds that weekend. It is about the same distance for most of us to Colusa as it is to Marysville.

Unfortunatley, this site is significantly more expensive than the Marysville site, so we will be asking a $1 PER PERSON donation to help defray the site costs & the fees for the extra privies.

DIRECTIONS: (omitted).

From The Page (September, 1990):

This year's Ducal Prize occurs August 31 - September 3. Site opens at 1 pm on Friday Aug 31.

The prize in this year's raffle is a Dragonwing pavilion, donated by Lord Eoin Thorr Dhragoin, complete with a frame provided by Master Frederick of Holland. The pavilion WILL be given away at Ducal Prize, though you need not be present to win. Tickets are still available for a donation of $1 each (or 6 for $5).

If you miss out on the pavilion, there are prizes to be won in a host of competitions:

FIGHTING: normal list, sword-&-shield list (for 2-man teams, a sword man & a shield man), mass weapon list, pole arm melee, resurrection melee, & more.

MISCELLANEOUS: pandy-anything (except weapons), sumo wrestling, sacrificial offering (must be non-harmful to people, animals, or the site), scavenger hunt, hunkerhauser, jacks, & more.

Even if you can't win a competition, you can at least get some shopping done! The auctions at Ducal Prize offer goods & services from some of hte best artisans in the Kingdom, as well as a variety of books, jewelry, clothing, & other paraphrenalia that can be difficult or impossible to find anywehre else. Some competitors even auction their efforts, allowing their well-heeled sponsor to collect whatever prizes they may win. Various merchants offer their wares, with part of the profit going to the Land Fund. And the Garage Sale features treasures, trash, & everything in between.

The jolly crew of the Sea Rat Inn will be offering their usual hospitality, with excellent prices on food, beverages, & ice cream & a shady place to sit.
