Principality Games -- Principality of the Mists

August 5, 1989 (AS XXIV)

From The Page (July, 1989):

This year's Principality Games will be held at Camp Herms Boy Scout Camp in EI Cerrito. We plan to have many diverse and intersting games to amuse the populace (games we WON'T be seeing this year -- Child Pike Toss, An Tirian Axe Jumping). Site fee is $2.00. The site will open at 10 am. There will be a feast held at the same site as the games and will begin when the days festivities end. The cost for the feast will be $8.00. For information and reservations, contact Krystianna of Dragonrun (name/phone) or Amanda Edwin (name/phone). The autocrats for the event are Robert of Woodsende (phone), and Niall o'r Llwad Bell at (phone).

DIRECTIONS: (omitted)

The arts competition at the Mists Principality Games will be Illumination on the Spot. No, we're aren't talking about a strangly-decorated dog or a new gloss on the Griffonsguard song. Each entrant will be given a choice of several Uncial capitals, suitable for illumination. Examples of period illumination will be provided. Coloring materials will be available, or you may bring your own. Contestants will have one hour in which to complete their entry. Neatness counts! No documentation is required. If you have any questions, please call Meisterin Sula von Pferdenthal at (phone).

From The Page (August, 1989):

This year's Principality Games will be held at Camp Herms Boy Scout Camp in El Cerrito. The site opens at 10 am and the site fee is a mere $2.00. This is a dry site, please be discreet.

When the Games were created by Princess Maythen of the Mists they were intended to hone the many and varied skills and to build esprit among the various households, war units, and local groups among her subjects. To continue in this tradition, Prince Robert of the Mists has commanded the creation of many diverse and stimulating games be held for the edification of His subjects. Among the games held will be the traditional Message Relay, Blazon That Device, Antirian Skeet Shooting, Javelin Toss (for distance and accuracy), a War Unit Race (a minimum of five members with a minimum of two shields), a "special" target archery event, and the First Annual Mlsts/Cynagua Cattle Raid "Moo-morial" Cow Melee (this one should be a real crowd pleaser). Prizes will be ribbons with which to decorate your household, shire, or war unit's banner. But the real prize will be a day of great fun for all.

There will be a feast held at the same site as the games and will begin when the days festivities end. The feast is hosted by Westermark and friends. The fare will be Japanese. The cost for the feast will be $8.00. For Information and reservations, contact Krystianna of Dragonrun (name/phone) or Amanda Edwin (name/phone). The autocrats for the event are Robert of Woodsende (phone), and Niall o'r Llwad Bell at (phone).
