Yuletide Revel -- Esfenn

December 2, 1989 (AS XXIV)

From The Page (November, 1989):

Jin-gle Bells, Christ-mas Elfs, Yuletide is on its way,
Oh, what fun it is to play, At an Esfenn Holiday ... ay

(to the tune of Jingle Bells)

Come and join us in the Shire of Esfenn for this seasons Yuletide Revel, Dec. 2nd at the Southgate Community Center in Hawayrd from 2 p.m. until 9>30 p.m. The site fee is $3 per person. We promise a return to fun and merriment as in days of old when Esfenn was young and frivolous. We're opening up the hall at 2 p.m., for early setup because promptly at 2:30 p.m. we're off in our fire dragons to spread joy and song at local convalescent homes. Come and help us spread this Yuletide cheer.

At 4 p.m. the first stage of our troubadour competition will begin, while medieval games and silliness will be available for the more sdendtary of heart. All those with bardic interests are invited to compete in the choosing of the Troubadour of Esfenn (NO residency requirement). Each competitor shall perform one musical and one nonmusical piece. The pieces need not be original but should be in pre 17th century style. All interested competitors should send a SASE to the autocrat so that you can be provided with the details of the contest.

Promptly at 5 p.m. the Great Pot-Luck Feast Shall Begin with the traditional Yuletide turkey and ham supplied by the local inhabitants. It is reputed by wise men of the West that the most robust and savory main dishes are prepared by people whose mundane last name begins with A through F. Likewise the most delicious desserts are created by G-M, N-S the finest salads, and T-Z aged cheeses and freshest breads. Please come with an offering to feed 6-8 people. For your pleasure and amusement during dinner, a Yuletide play by Brothers in Jest, the finalists from the Troubadour Competition, and an enthusiastic rendition of (something not yet decided) by the all new, sometimes old, sometimes bold, never before seen or witnessed Esfennian Elfs. For those with a competitive spirit we will be having competitons for the Best Use of Mistletoe on your Person and the Best use of Red and Green on Mens Legs. We also promise much dancing and good company. For those who wear themselves out by such revelry a slide show will be shown late in the evening featuring the Bayeaux Tapestry and/or Castles in Switzerland. Come early bring your caroling voices or badic abilities and join us for a fun filled day.

For those individuals who were offended by incidents at our last Yule Revel - the Shire offers its most sincere apology and promises that this years Yule Revel will be filled with merriment.
