Arts and Sciences Competition -- Darkwood

September 9-10, 1989 (AS XXIV)

On September 9-10, the Barony of Darkwood, is once again holding their Annual Arts and Sciences Competition, the winner of which will be the new champion for the upcoming year. Categories for this year's event are baking (a sweetened bread), favors (something you would give to a champion to go into battle), dance (the Bransle d'Guerre, the Karabushka, and the Earl of Salisbury Pavane), Game (Nine Man Morris), Song (an original composition with musical accompaniment), Jewelry (to be wearable, but not necessarily metal), painting (paint applied in a period manner). All the competitions will take place on Saturday, with a potluck in the evening, and dancing, fighting, and archery on Sunday. Join us at the meadow near the campground at Ford Ord Army Base. Fees are $2 per day, or $7 camp over. Barbecues are available, pets must be on leashes. For further information contact the autocrat, Sabrina Goldbender (name/contact info).
