From The Page (April, 1989):
The Shire of Cloondara is hosting a Bardic Contest and Picnic in the Park on Saturday, May 20. The site is the Pioneer Log Cabin Picnic Grounds In Golden Gate Park, San Francisco. The site opens at 10 am, and closes at sunset. The bardic contest will begin at 11:30 am. Since this is a "bring your own food" event (not a potluck), the picnic is whenever you get hungry. The rules for the contest are as follows: 1.) Songs, stories and poems are equally acceptable forms. 2.) Each entrants must present two (2) pieces, each of no more than five (5) minutes. One piece must be an original composition, and the other must be a period piece taken from any source prior to 1600 AD. 3.) There will be tokens for all entrants. Prizes (nice things!) will be awarded by the judge's decision.
The picnic grounds are rather public (everything in the park is). There are a few tables and some shade trees. No fires of any kind are allowed. Running water and flush privies are to be found about 700 feet away. There are grocery stores, delis, and restaurants on the city streets bordering the park (long walk, short drive). Parking is whereever you can find it, although early comers should be able to park on Kennedy Dr. For more information, call the autocrat, Theodoros (name/phone). You may also leave a message with the seneschal or her machine (before 9 pm please), at (phone).
