From The Page (February, 1990):
The name of the event is 'Provo di Amore' (Italian for 'Proof of Love', or more cynically, 'Trial of Love'). We know that a fighter's consort is supposed to be the inspiration of his honor & bravery on the field, but in most tournaments there are material incentives as well. This time we put your convictions to the test. All spoils of victory go to the consort. You fight only to prove your love & that love shall be your sole inspiration. The winning fighter's consort will be crowned 'Queen of Winter' at Her evening court.
There has been a site change. The event will take place at Lord Tristan MacKendrick & Lady Brenna MacRae's new Mead hall in Winton. The date has also been changed from Saturday the 10th to Sunday the 11th to avoid a conflict with the Golden Rivers Valentine's Revel. The SITE FEE is $3; children are free. The site will open at 9 am & fighting begins at 10:30.
The event is the 1st fighting event of the season & falls a week before Estrella (just in time to get back into the swing of things). The lists will be indoors in case of inclement weather. It will be a shieldless list (that is, any legal weapons or combinations, but no shields). There'll also be a 'Fish in a Barrel' team challenge for fighters with audience participation.
On the gentler side there will be an Arts Coepetition for needlework done on site (details available froe Mistress Filitia), & a host of other activities & games guaranteed to keep people of all ages busy.
After the day's activities there will be a relaxing break for a potluck dinner & a brief court, to be followed by (less relaxing) dancing.
