From The Page (July, 1989):
Have you ever lived on a border? Have your neighbors to the south ever been so warlike? Well, frankly, we are frightened! We need someone to marshal our troups to keep the West a peaceful Kingdom. We need someone to come to the aid of our lovely ladies and gallant lords in these threatening times. In short, we need a Protector! The candidate should be able to attend the four events hosted by Borderwinds during the year of your office; and you must be fighting for a consort who will preside over the Court of Love to be held in their honor. This quest for a protector will be held on August 12 and 13, at El Chorro Regional Park in cool San Luis Obispo (for those of you with good memories, it's the same site as the old West/Caid Wars and the Bambi War). This year the tourney will be held in conjunction with the Persona Workshop. No, this doesn't mean you have to play persona all weekend, but it does allow you to work on a persona if you wish. Contests include a heavy weapons list to determine Protector and a prize for the highest finisher not competing for Protector; Best Favor, Most Chivalrous Fighter, Best Persona Story. More may be added (watch this space). Directions and a map to the site will be in the August Page. For further information, call the co-autocrats, Ruben ben Yosef, (phone) or Kathryn Blackhart, (phone).
From The Page (August, 1989):
Well, it's getting close now and we are in dire need of defending. What can you do to help? It's simple. Just come on down to El Chorro Regional Park on the Weekend of August 12 and 13, put on funny clothes and armor and beat up someone with a stick. Well, okay, it's not as easy as all that! For one thing, the poor slob you are trying to beat up will be trying to do the same thing to you, and they might be better at it than you. For another thing, you need to be fighting for someone who is willing to preside over the Court of Love to be held in February or March of next year. But do come down to San Luis Obispo and join in the fun. Fees are $7/camping unit, $5.50/extra car. As we do not have the entire park reserved, please call one of the autocrats so they can save you a spot. For further information, call the co-autocrats, Ruben ban Yosef, (phone) or Kathryn Blackhart, (phone).
Description of this event (if any), taken from The Page, or from memory of at least one person who attended the event.
