From The Page (May, 1987):
Those foolish, but funloving folks to the north have challenged us, The West, to a war. The fun will be over the Fourth of July weekend in southern An Tir.
Our valiant foes promise open field, bridge, castle and forest battles as well as a champions battle. There will also be contests for a drawing or a map of the war scene, scout run, Chinese chess, javelin accuracy (bring your own javelins), best excuse for not attending the Kings' Muster, and the best "No shit, there we were ..." war story. The Queen of An Tir, Nu Huang Lao Hu, will also be sponsoring contests for the best war banner for units and a bardic competition on the topic of the "defeat(?) of the West" or the honor of King Dak and An Tir.
All volunteers to marshal or serve as constables are welcome. Minors must bring a signed waiver. Park rules prohibit archery and fireworks. The Dunn Cow will be on site with their usual hospitality.
The site is Zumwalt Park along the Fern Ridge Reservoir. There are 30 acres of meadow and forest. All privies and water will be trucked in. Pets must be leashed at all times. There is a boat ramp and swimming is permitted, but there are no lifeguards. The site will open at 2 p.m. on Friday, July 3. The site fee is $4 for adults and $2 for children between 6 and 12.
The autocrat is Berek von Langenthal (contact info omitted). The war rules should be in next month's issue.
From The Page (June, 1987):
The Page has received an announcement on the planned activities for the West-An Tir war to be held on the 4th of July weekened near Eugene, OR. Read "From the Crown - Jade and Anastasia" for words from Their Majesties on this subject.
Planned activities include open field, bridge, castle, and forest battles, as well as a champion's battle. Target archery will be permitted, and the park authorities have granted permission for a Combat Archery scenario. Mixed (Heavy & Archery) Battles are not allowed, however.
For those of gentler nature, there will be other on-site competitions, such as Drawing a War Scene or Map (materials not provided), Scout Run, Chinese Chess, Javeling Accuracy (BYO WAR LEGAL javelins), Best Excuse For Not Attending the King's Muster, and the best "No s$%#, there I was" story. (Chronicler's note: the Page is a family publication.)
(the rest of the Page copy is a repeat of the May copy, except for this, on the next page:)
(Chronicler's Note: This is where the rules for the West-AnTir war would have gone, but they didn't arrive in time for publication. Look for them and a map to the war in this space next month. Instead, we offer you some words from the Kingdom Chancellor of Scribes.) (Chancellor of Scribes' text omitted, as not being event copy ...)
Description of this event (if any), taken from The Page, or from memory of at least one person who attended the event.
