Bardic Competition -- Principality of the Mists

September 13, 1987 (AS XXII)

The annual Bard of the Mists competition and banquet will be held on September 12.

The competition to select the next Bard of the Mists is open to musicians, poets and story-tellers. You need not be a singer to compete.

The competition will have five performance categories:
A period song, poem or story composed between 500 and 1600 C.E. Please include documentation for your selection.
An original song, poem or story in a Medieval or Renaissance style.
Open category -- your choice of an original or period piece.
Bard's choice -- an original song, poem or story on the subject of Courtly Love. You might want to review both the rules and literature of Courtly Love before you compose your piece.
Impromptu category -- draw three words at random from the Bard's hat and, in fifteen minutes, compose a song,poem or story effectively incorporating the words.

Competitors will be judged on performing ability, creativity, and stylistic authenticity. If you have any questions about the competition, call the Bard of the Mists, Helen du Pres de Bretagne (contact info omitted).

The Competition for the Bard of the Mists will be held on September 13 (PLEASE NOTE THE DATE CHANGE) in the Shire of Solais Mor (Livermore) at the Veterans Memorial Hall. The site will open at 11am and the competition will begin at 12 noon. There is a $2 per person site fee.

The five competition categories were listed in the May PAGE and will be listed again next month.

The competition will be followed by a Celtic feast in 3 removes. Feast tickets are $5 and are available at Kingdom and Principality (Mists) events and by mail from the autocrat until August 29. If you would like to have your banners displayed please get them to the autocrat at or before Purgatorio.
