From The Page (August, 1987):

On August 29th at Weeks Park in Hayward, the Shire of Esfenn will hold its annual First Sword Tourney and Prize Melee. The site opens at 10am, armor inspection at 11:30, and the First Sword Tourney will start promptly at noon. Site fee of $2.50 will be collected at the revel hall.

While only Esfennians may enter the First Sword Tourney, there will be games, competitions, dancing and fighting enough for all. For the athletically inclined, there will be at least 3 fighter melees: Off-hand Melee w/prize, Stupid Fighter Tricks Melee w/prize, and Not Yet Decided Melee w/prize.

For the subdued, we'll have Croquet for the Talls, Croquet for the Smalls followed by Flat Cap Tossing, all with suitable prizes.

If this is still "too energetic" for you, perhaps reveling is more to your style and you'll be interested in the courtly dance of Jouyessance or write a short story to be read at dinner about "A Funny Thing Happened To My Caravan On The Way To The Event". Or try your wit on a spontaneous poetry contest.

The on-site revel hall will open around 5pm. There will be a potluck in the round with some meat provided. Please bring your banners and a dish to feed 6-8 for the potluck.

Directions: omitted.
