The Twentieth Year

Twelfth Night Coronation

January 4, 1986 (AS XX)

From The Page (December, 1985):

In most joyous celebration of Twelfth Night, the Kingdom of the West invites its populace to journey forth this fourth day of January, A.S. XX to the Province of Silver Desert. This year's Twelfth Night will be in the Kerak Shriner's Temple, (address omitted), Reno, NV. The hall will open at 11 a.m. and close at 11:30 p.m.

The tentative schedule of events is as follows: 11 a.m. hall opens; 1 p.m. last court of Michael and Iseult; 3 p.m. first court of James and Verena; 5 p.m. court ends, dinner commences; 7 p.m. dancing and revelry; 11:30 clean up and farewells.

Their Majesties and Their Royal Highnesses do not forsee any peerage meetings at this event.

Sigmund the Wingfooted, the autocrat of T.Y.C., will be attending Twelfth Night. His Grace has generously offered to speak to the populace about the Twenty Year Celebration and to display pictures of the site.

At Twelfth Night there will be an auction to benefit the Kingdom Travel Fund. Bring your full purses to Twelfth Night to bid on lovely items such as a cloak, a hand knit sweater, a piece of hand worked scrimshaw done to the buyers specifications and much more. Contributions are still being sought. Large and small items of all values are still being accepted by the ladies of Clan Michael. If you would like to donate an item, send a donation of it to Her Majesty. Please include a minimum bid, if there is one, and when you can get the item to Her Majesty or Anne Fawnhaven. If the item is to be custom made for the buyer, please include what information you will need from the buyer. Please include both of your names, your address and phone number with the description of the donated item. For more information about teh auction or to offer your help, contact Her Majesty or Anne Fawnhaven at (phone omitted).

There will be a raffle drawing at Twelfth Night to benefit the Land Fund of the Kingdom. You need not be present to win. Two items are being raffled. One is a magnificent full wolf pelt which was donated by Sharane de Kondrack. The wolf was trapped in Oertha and is a rarity. The second item is a hand woven banner by Owenyth Weavewell. The banner will be done to order with the device of the winner. Owenyth's work is well known in the Principality of the Mists. She made the banner for the Shire of Cloondara and has made two personal banners, all of which show exquisite workmanship and careful attention to detail in the designs. Tickets for the raffle are $1 each. Their Royal Highnesses will be selling tickets at as many events as possible in the central Kingdom, including Twelfth Night. However, you may also order tickets by mail. Please send a check or money order, a stamped self addressed envelope and whether you want the wolf pelt or the woven banner. You may buy tickets for each item. The drawings will be separate. If you live outside the U.S., please send an international money order including postage costs rather than a check or regular money order. The currency exchange rates are too high to be absorbed. Please send ticket requests to Helmsgaard, (address omitted).

To supplement its coffers, the Barony of Fettburg will be raffling off various treasures in the evening. Tickets may still be purchast at this time. More information should be available from the seneschal of Fettburg.

The Kerak Temple will be selling meals for $8. All tickets must be purchased no later than December 15. There will be no more meals prepared than tickets sold. The menu consists of game hen on a bed of wild rice, breads, vegetables, cheeses and fruit. If you wish to partake, please make out a check to Twelfth Night Banquet for this meal.

Due to the rules of the hall, there are no warming facilities. However, feel free to arrange potlucks or bring your own meal. For those who wish to venture forth into the mudnane world for dinner, Reno has many very good restaurants. A list of restaurants and lodging will be mailed with the tickets and will also be available at the event.

The Principality of Cynagua will be selling various edibles. If there are any who wish to help provide for this service, please contact the autocrat who will be most delighted to speak to you about this matter.

If you wish to display your banner at Twelfth Night, please contact Ambrouse of Barduin (contact info omitted). Banners to be displayed must arrive before Friday, January 3. This kind lord will also be gathering banners at events.

All those wishing to entertain, should contact Mirielle de Ferrier (contact info omitted). Special entrance prices will be offered to performers.

To accent the hall's Egyptian motifs, the autocrat is sponsoring an Egyptian/Moorish table setting contest. Display your decadent setting in an appropriate atmosphere.

If you are royalty beyond the borders of the West Kingdom, please contact the autocrat so you may obtain your tickets. All royalty within the Kingdom wil receive theirs through the mail.

Ticket prices are $8 until December 15 and will rise to $9 at the door. Children under 5 are free. Juniors (5-12) are half price. Merchant tickets are $20 and include one ticket. The merchant tickets are sold on a first come, first served basis.

Please make your check out to "1986 Kingdom of the West Twelfth Night" and include a self addressed, stamped envelope. All Twelfth Night business should be sent to the atuocrat: Twelfth Night A.S. XX, (address omitted).

If there are any questions yet unanswered, or if you have something you wish to see or do, please feel free to contact the autocrat, Ceridwen MacAoudhegain at (phone omitted) before 10 p.m.

Commentary:
"This was held in Reno NV, a controversial choice at the time. There was concern that it was not only too far from Central Kingdom, but also that the weather on the Sierras could be trouble. It did indeed snow the night before and day of, but resourceful people had organized a bus and even a train trip; those people had a worry-free ball! The pass stayed open and the bus group stopped and had a snowball fight. The event itself went off as well as any, despite the fact that the autocrat (Ceridwen MacAoudhegain) was also Princess of Cynagua at the time." -- Colin de Bray

"I was one of the folks who rode the train to get to the event. It was a beautiful trip with lots of snow-covered vistas.

"This was the event where I got the most interesting comments while wandering about in garb. It was clear that the locals were not used to seeing folks dressed as we were....either that or they WERE used to it for other reasons.

"The more interesting comments I heard was "Priests" and "Pakistani Immigrants". Then there was the woman who was sure that were were a religious group and ernestly wished to hear our message. It took us a couple of minutes to convince her that this was not the case." -- Vlasta von der Weissen Sonne
