The Twentieth Year

Champion Tournament -- Silver Desert

September 21-22, 1985 (AS XX)

From The Page (September, 1985):

OK, here it is (finally). Directions, info, etc. for the incomparable Silver Desert Championship-- September 21 and 22.

There will be a weird weapons list: pole arms and odd combinations. Sword and shield strictly forbitten. If you have odd weapons bring them; otherwise we will provide them. Don't worry if you've never used anything but standard weapons, lots of other folks haven't either.

There will be several other competitions. Chess/Backgammon: Bring a board if you have one (the more boards we have, the faster we can run the competitions). Potable Identification: Identify what the funny colored stuff in the cup is. These are alcoholic, so over 21 only. Heraldry: Ambrose has yet to decide exactly what this year's contest will be but they are always interesting. The Known World Handbook is a good reference (hint, hint). Unusual Meat Dish: Either an unusual meat or an unusual way of preparing an ordinary meat, or both. Include recipe. Relay Race: No details yet, surprise. Archery: War Arrows. Costume: On site accessory. You just got invited to a potluck feast and haven't a thing to wear. Oral Interpretation: Period style poem or short story. Either one of your own or a filk or out of a text. Dance: As yet to be defined, will be something unusual.

All competitions will have a prize awarded. Competitors for the Championship must live in Silver Desert and must enter at least six contests. Anyone may enter any competition for the purpose of attaining the prize.

There will be a pot luck Saturday night to celebrate the Silver Desert's seventh anniversary.
