The Twentieth Year

Mists Coronet

September 21, 1985 (AS XX)

From The Page (September, 1985):

Once again it is that time of year to find out who will be our next Prince and Princess. The Barony of Vinhold is hosting this year's Mists Fall Coronet.

The date will be September 21. The site fee will be $2 per person. The site will be Kennedy Park, near Napa College. Set up will begin at 9 a.m. The city of Napa does not allow alcoholic beverages or glass bottles in their public parks. This includes Kennedy Park. If you choose to drink an alcoholic beverage anyway, keep the container out of sight and take your empties home with you. There are public restrooms on the site, but only one water faucet. Please bring trash bags for your trash. There is a limited amount of trash space, so some trash may have to go home with you.

The schedule is as follows: 9 a.m. site opens; 10:30 first court, invocation will be immediately after court; 11:30 fighting begins. The Prince and Princess run events on time!

The revel hall is the American Legion Hall at the corner of Pearl and Coombs in downtown Napa. The hall will open when the fighting has ended and will close at 11 p.m. A map will be available at Kennedy Park with directions to the hall and local restaurants. There will be tables and chairs provivded for a bring your own feast. A two burner gas stove is available in the kitchen for re-heating only. This is a wet hall for people 21 years of age or older. "This was a one day event held in Vinhold's Kennedy Park.

"I remember I was both mentally and physically exhausted for this event and was not in any shape to do well. I went out in two rounds which was a step downward from the last Coronet where I had reached 6th round. My first round fight was Steven of Norham and lasted about 5 minuets. Steve was sick and we had many a hold while he sat coughing and gasping. I think I was the longest fight he had that day. It was amazing to me that he went on to win. This made the second Coronet in a row where I lost to the eventual winner.

"I remember that Gregory Falconheart was Steve's last fight before the finals. This caused Prince Gaius some worry as Gregory was supposed to step up as the Principality Seneschal shortly after the Coronet.

"I believe the other finalist was William of Briardust." -- Vlasta von der Weissen Sonne
