The Nineteenth Year

Mud March -- Golden Rivers
March 2, 1985 (AS XIX)

From The Page (March, 1985):

Come one, come all to the Golden Rivers Mud March: A prize tourney to benefit the Province of Golden Rivers.

There will be many unusual and appropriate prizes. The contests will include a list; a three-legged melee; a hand kissing contest (separate lord's and lady's categories); a Hole in the Wall best stealing contest (dancing, for those unenlightened souls out there); a cooking contest for fruit pies; and a Gold Key costume contest with the entries to be donated to our wonderful Gold Key.

This event is to be held at the 20th century home of Marjorie and Mike Kass in Shingle Springs. These gracious people have offered their grounds; and there are facilities for an indoor revel and potluck if the weather's too cold outside.

There will be reveling and a potluck.

Dancing & cooking contests will be handled by Holly Alina de Montague (phone).

The main criteria for the cooking competition will be: must contain some obvious fruit (not necessarily period) and the pies will be auctioned to the highest bidders. The costumes for the Gold Key contest should be unisex (if possible), fairly easy to get into and out of, and in good repair (if not new). They should also be attractive and comfortable and (if possible) fit more than one size. If the costume is being made especially for this contest we ask that it cost $5 or close to it [to make]. This is the Society for Creative Anachronism. There will be two categories: new and already broken in (or tried and true, if you like).

Suggested guide for potluck: A-E breads; F-K main dishes; L-S salads or vegetables; T-Z fruits or desserts (use first letter of last name).

Directions: (omitted)

The activities will commence at about 10:30am and will run into the evening. For further info, contact the AUTOCRAT: Alexandra of the Irish Sea (phone).

Come out and have a wonderful time even if it DOESN'T rain!
